Looks like something went wrong when the Web server tried to rotate its log files last night - Saturday night / Sunday Morning 18/19th September. This resulted in severe slowdowns and eventual lack of service Cleaned up and restarted service 8:30am Sunday morning (as soon as I realised) and all seems to be functioning well again.
Sorry for any disruption. _________________ Daniel Sutcliffe

I think it crashed right after midnight. I was on around then and all was working fine. I came back about 20 minutes later and it would not load the main page. _________________ Mike Rizzotti

If you see a phpBB critical error - cannot connect to database - and this has happened a couple of times now although this is the first time I've actually experienced and been on top of it - then it looks like this is caused by someone(thing) trying to DoS this site and open as many connections to it as possible. I'm looking into what I can do to try and cut down on this disruption and maintain service even when others think that it's fun to be destructive

Something started to happen at 8:13am today that ate up all the servers memory leading to huge slowdowns and eventual lack of service - a reboot was performed at 9:00EST and now operation seems to be back to normal. I shall investigate further to try to find the culprit _________________ Daniel Sutcliffe

Looks like we(I) have some issues with Internet low life - a few bits of overload forced downtime in the last week.
This is just to let you know I am working on trying to find a solution and in the mean time will be reseting the board from time to time to clear out the forced sticky connections - if it isn't working at any time then please just come back in a bit ... sorry! _________________ Daniel Sutcliffe

Just to keep people informed - after today's unadvertised board downtime.
The server this board is located on is suffering some growing pains - these are not specifically to do with this site but obviously you are feeling the pain. The problems have really come about due to an increased amount of email passing through this specific system - much of it spam - due to the many domains that I host. I'm working on spreading this load through some of my other servers and generally trying to stop the spam even entering the system. I also have a whole bunch of software upgrades waiting to be implemented which should help matters ... However I seem to be spending more time fire fighting than actually getting useful updates and config changes tested and implemented. Bare with me though, I will beat this and we should be back running faster than ever.
Thanks

Just got this from my service provider: Quote: | Server maintenance is occurring between 2006-11-10 from 00:00 to 04:00.
During that time you may experience a brief outage of 30 min to 4 hours. | The time is probably MST as that is where the server is...
Anyway, just so you know - it's expected, and we'll be back... _________________ Daniel Sutcliffe
